Washington, June 25th (Xinhua) -- The hearing on the US government's plan to impose tariffs on approximately $300 billion worth of Chinese products imported to the US entered its final day on the 25th. Several American business representatives have called on the government not to impose tariffs on Chinese products, believing that such tariffs will harm the interests of businesses and consumers, and will not help protect American intellectual property and employment.

At the hearing that day, more than 40 representatives from industries such as clothing, footwear, sports and fitness equipment, mobile electronics, toiletries, and electrical accessories across the United States generally believed that imposing tariffs on Chinese goods would harm American businesses and consumers. Due to the price and production capacity advantages of Chinese suppliers, it is difficult for companies to transfer their supply chains.

A sock manufacturer based in New York has stated that imposing a 25% tariff on socks will pose a survival crisis for the company. A company specializing in tung oil stated that Chinese tung oil has special quality and is favored by users. The United States has been importing tung oil from China for a long time, and only China can meet the requirements of the United States. Imposing a new round of tariffs will damage the competitiveness of American companies. A lithium-ion battery manufacturer also stated that China has a huge production of lithium-ion batteries and leading technology, and imposing tariffs on lithium-ion batteries will bankrupt the company.

This round of hearings began on June 17th. During the hearing, numerous industry representatives were present to testify, showcasing the company's various products to government officials or holding bulletin boards to emphasize the dangers of imposing tariffs, calling on the US government not to impose tariffs on goods imported from China.

After the hearing, the public will have one week to submit additional comments to the Office of the United States Trade Representative. Prior to the hearing, 520 American companies and 141 trade associations had jointly sent a letter to President Trump urging the government not to impose tariffs on goods imported from China and to return to the negotiating table to reach a solution with China.
